EXPERTISE

Signs of product adulteration have been detected among several manufacturers in the Ukrainian cooked sausage market. This was reported by food quality expert Maxim Nesmiyanov, who released the results of laboratory tests, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, testing of several popular products revealed that the actual composition did not match the declared specifications, particularly regarding protein content.

What was found

In particular, the “Dityacha” sausage produced by the Kyiv Meat Processing Plant ( price: 197.5 UAH/kg) had the lowest protein content among the samples tested— 8.65 g per 100 g, compared to the declared 12 g. Mechanically separated meat was also found in the product.

Similar discrepancies were found in other samples:

  • “Veal” sausage (259 UAH/kg), purchased from the FORA chain — 9.33 g of protein per 100 g instead of 12 g;
  • “Likerska” sausage (245 UAH/kg) — 9.07 g of protein per 100 g instead of 13 g.

In all cases, according to the expert, mechanically separated meat was used, which does not meet consumer expectations for products in this segment.

The results of tests on sausages from the private labels of the ATB (“Svoia Linia”) and NOVUS chains (manufacturer — “Ukrprompostach”) turned out to be good.

“This is not a counterfeit,” Nesmiyanov stated.

Product Distribution

The tested samples were purchased at various retail outlets, including “Myasito” stores and neighborhood retail shops. At the same time, as Nesmianov notes, products from certain manufacturers are also available in large chains, including NOVUS.

The expert clarified that it is more accurate to use the term “counterfeit,” but in his post he used a definition more understandable to a broad audience—“fake.”
