The “Shehyni–Medika” route will not be closed to buses: details of the agreement

11 June 22:34

Bus service through the “Shehyni–Medyka” border crossing on the Ukrainian-Polish border will operate without restrictions this summer. Despite planned repair work on the Polish side, bus traffic will not be halted. This was announced by Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Community and Territorial Development, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to him, the relevant agreements were reached following negotiations between the Ukrainian and Polish sides.

Bus traffic through “Shehyni–Medyka” will not be suspended

Earlier, Poland had announced its intention to temporarily suspend the processing of buses entering the country due to repairs on the bus lane. The restrictions were set to take effect on June 15.

However, following negotiations between Ukraine’s Ministry of Community and Territorial Development and Poland’s Ministry of the Interior, an agreement was reached that bus traffic through the “Shehyni–Medyka” border crossing will continue uninterrupted throughout the summer season.

Why this border crossing is important

The “Shehyni–Medyka” border crossing is one of the busiest routes for passenger traffic between Ukraine and Poland. It is actively used by international bus carriers, migrant workers, students, tourists, and Ukrainians traveling to Poland or returning home.

The Shehyni–Medyka border crossing is one of the busiest routes for travel from Ukraine to Poland.
The checkpoint is located in the Lviv region, Mostyska district, near the village of the same name. On the Polish side, the “Medyka” checkpoint is located on the highway heading toward Przemyśl.
The checkpoint is for vehicles and pedestrians. The checkpoint’s status is international.
The types of transport handled are passenger and freight.

That is why a possible suspension of bus processing could have caused significant inconvenience for passengers and carriers, especially during the summer, when passenger traffic traditionally increases.

Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Community and Territorial Development, emphasized that the agreement with the Polish side will help maintain stable transport links between the two countries.

“This will allow us to maintain stable transport links between Ukraine and Poland for passengers and international carriers,” Kuleba noted.

Repair work will continue, but buses will be allowed through

Repairs to the bus lane at the border crossing into Poland are still planned. It was previously reported that work at the “Shehyni–Medyka” border crossing could last until November 2027.

Despite this, a complete halt to bus traffic was avoided for the summer season.

This is important for passengers who have already planned their trips, as well as for carriers operating on international routes.

What this means for passengers

Passengers planning to travel by bus through the “Shehyni–Medyka” border crossing will still be able to use this route.

However, due to repair work, local delays or changes in traffic organization are possible, so it is advisable to check with the carrier before traveling.
