The animated film “Mavka. The Forest Song” will be released in Finland

The Ukrainian animated film Mavka. The Forest Song”, based on the drama extravaganza by Lesya Ukrainka. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the State Film Agency.
“The animated film Mavka. The Forest Song” is being released in Finland. The wide theatrical release of the animated film with Finnish dubbing begins on 2 August,” the statement reads.
The State Film Agency reminded that the cartoon was created with their support and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
What is known about the animated film “Mavka. The Forest Song”
This is a Ukrainian 3D animated film based on the fairy tale drama by Lesya Ukrainka and images of folk mythology. The film tells the story of the love between Mavka, the spirit of the forest, and Lukash, a peasant musician, and their struggle against the cruel Kylyna, who wants to use the tree of life for her own selfish purposes.
The budget of the animated film is 187 million hryvnias, and the share of state participation in the production is 49.5 million. The directors are Oleksandra Ruban and Oleg Malamuzh.
Work on the animated film “Mavka. The Forest Song” began in 2015. Over the years, the creators changed the plot, character design, budget and premiere date. The film was completed at the end of 2022. The film received state support in the amount of 25% of the initial budget, which at that time was estimated at over UAH 98 million. In 2020, the State Film Support Council approved a 1.9-fold increase in the project’s budget.
The main characters of the animated film are voiced by Yulia Sanina, Dzidzio, Olena Kravets, Artem Pivovarov, Oleg Skrypka, Natalka Denysenko and others. The soundtrack for the film was created by DakhaBrakha
The premiere of Mavka. The Forest Song” premiered in cinemas on 2 March 2023.
During its release, the film managed to set several national records. In particular, it became the highest-grossing Ukrainian film project in the history of independent Ukrainian cinema and entered the top 20 highest-grossing films in the history of film distribution in Ukraine.
The film was shot in English and shown in about 140 countries, where it was dubbed into 32 local languages.
