Nikol Pashinyan has retained his position as head of the Armenian government

The President of Armenia has appointed a new prime minister— Nikol Pashinyan has been reappointed to the post. RBC-Ukraine reports this, citing the relevant decree published on the Armenian president’s website, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan appointed Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister in accordance with Part 1 of Article 149 of the country’s Constitution.

The day before, the “Civic Contract” party, which holds a parliamentary majority in the National Assembly, announced the nomination of its leader, Nikol Pashinyan, for the post of prime minister.

The political party noted that it had already submitted to the President of Armenia the package of documents required to carry out the constitutionally mandated procedure for appointing the head of government.

According to the Armenian Constitution, once the newly elected parliament takes office, the president must immediately appoint as prime minister the candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority.

Earlier, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan accepted the government’s resignation, which Pashinyan submitted at the start of the newly elected parliament’s first session. This procedure is a constitutional requirement following the commencement of the new convocation of the National Assembly.
