Passenger traffic across Ukraine’s border set an August record: the busiest border crossings have been identified

Passenger traffic across Ukraine’s western border continues to rise. During the first week of August, the number of border crossings reached 778,000, marking the highest figure this year and matching the peak recorded during the same period in 2025.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Passenger traffic rose to 778,000 people
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, 778,000 people crossed Ukraine’s western border between August 1 and 7, which is 1.7% more than the previous week.
Statistics show:
- departures from Ukraine — 373,000 people;
- entries into Ukraine — 405,000 people.
Thus, the number of people returning to Ukraine once again exceeded the number of citizens leaving the country.
Where were the longest lines?
As of 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, the largest number of vehicles were waiting to cross the Ukrainian-Polish border.
The busiest border crossings:
On the border with Poland:
- Ustyluh — 75 vehicles;
- Ugryniv — 45;
- Krakivets — 20;
- Hrushiv — 20;
- Nyzhankovychi — 15;
- Shehyni — 10.
At the border with Slovakia:
- Uzhhorod — 45 vehicles;
- Malyi Berezny — 30.
At the border with Hungary:
- Luzhanka — 30 cars;
- Dzvinkove — 20;
- Vylok — 15;
- Kosyno — 15;
- Tisa — 8.
At the border with Romania:
- Porubne — 20 vehicles;
- Dyakivtsi — 5;
- Krasnoilsk — 5.

Ukrainians are returning home more often
Data from the State Border Guard Service show that the highest outbound traffic was recorded on Saturday— 57,000 people per day—while the highest number of people entering Ukraine was on Sunday— 65,000.
The lowest outbound traffic:
- outbound — on Monday and Thursday (50,000 each);
- inbound — on Thursday (45,000).
Fewer Vehicles and Humanitarian Shipments
Despite the increase in the number of passengers, traffic volume decreased slightly.
Over the week, the following passed through the checkpoints:
- 140,000 vehicles (compared to 142,000 the previous week);
- 427 vehicles carrying humanitarian cargo (compared to 441).
Why August Is Traditionally a Peak Month
According to State Border Guard Service statistics, a similar figure— 778,000 crossings —was recorded in the first half of August last year.
The traditionally high passenger traffic is linked to the summer tourist season, vacations, and Ukrainians returning home.
