Russia attacked the Kromberg & Schubert plant in Zhytomyr: auto parts production has been suspended

During Russia’s massive attack on Zhytomyr on the night of August 9, the Kromberg & Schubert Zhytomyr plant—one of the region’s largest enterprises with 100% German investment—sustained serious damage. Due to the extensive damage, production has been temporarily halted, and the timeline for resumption is not yet known. This was reported by the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration and the plant’s management, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Russian Attack Damaged One of Zhytomyr Region’s Largest Factories
According to Vitaliy Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration, the Russian shelling damaged one of the region’s major revenue-generating enterprises, which is vital to the regional economy and provides jobs for thousands of people.
A fire broke out on the plant’s premises following the strike and was extinguished by units of the State Emergency Service.
Law enforcement officers are also on the scene, documenting the aftermath of the Russian attack.
The plant has temporarily suspended operations
Kromberg & Schubert Zhytomyr reported that the plant’s production facilities and infrastructure sustained significant damage.
In light of this, management has decided to:
- to temporarily halt production;
- to conduct a full technical assessment of the damage;
- determine the scope of restoration work once the assessment is complete.
The company emphasized that none of its employees were injured.

Authorities Promise to Help the Company
The Zhytomyr Regional State Administration reported that it is already working with local authorities to develop support mechanisms for the company.
According to Vitaliy Bunechko, the main task now is to preserve jobs and create conditions for the swiftest possible resumption of production.
“We are committed to keeping the company operational, supporting its staff, and creating the conditions for a swift recovery,” said the regional governor.

What Does Kromberg & Schubert Do?
Kromberg & Schubert is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of automotive wiring systems.
The plant in Zhytomyr has been operating since 2015–2016 and is the company’s second production site in Ukraine after the plant in Lutsk.
Main products:
- cable harnesses;
- on-board electrical systems;
- automotive components.
Customers include:
- Volkswagen;
- Audi;
- BMW;
- Mercedes-Benz;
- Skoda;
- Porsche.
The Zhytomyr plant employs about 3,500 people, making it one of the region’s largest employers.
The Kromberg & Schubert Group has been in operation since 1902 and specializes in the production of electrical systems, cables, and plastic components for the automotive industry.
Today, the company has over 50,000 employees at more than 40 production sites around the world.
In Ukraine, the group’s facilities operate:
- in Lutsk—more than 5,000 employees;
- in Zhytomyr — about 3,500 employees.
Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s industrial sector
The strike on Kromberg & Schubert was yet another attack on Ukrainian manufacturing enterprises.
In recent days, Russian troops have also struck logistics centers, warehouses belonging to major retail chains, oil and gas infrastructure, and facilities of international companies operating in Ukraine.
