Following attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces: The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery has suspended operations
11 June 10:12
The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in the Samara Region, owned by Rosneft, halted oil processing following a drone attack on June 10, two industry sources told Reuters, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the agency, the strike and subsequent fire damaged both primary processing units—CDU-4 and CDU-5—each with a capacity of about 10,000 tons per day.
The Kuibyshev Refinery is part of Rosneft’s Samara group of refineries (along with the Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran refineries) and is one of the largest oil refineries in the Volga region. The Novokuybyshevsk and Syzran refineries had also previously been knocked out of service by drone attacks: the Syzran refinery has been shut down since May 21 and has not yet resumed operations, while the Novokuybyshevsk refinery, attacked on April 18, is operating at reduced capacity, Reuters notes. In 2024, the Kuibyshev Refinery processed 4.7 million tons of crude oil, producing 0.8 million tons of gasoline, 1.4 million tons of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tons of fuel oil. The plant’s nominal capacity is 7 million tons per year.
Vyacheslav Fedoryshev, governor of the Samara region, previously confirmed a massive attack on the region on the night of June 10, reporting three casualties and “damage to several industrial facilities.”
Cheboksary was also attacked that same night. Chuvashia Head Oleg Nikolaev reported a strike on the VNDIR-Progress plant (previously attacked on May 5). The plant manufactures “Kometa” antennas for the Russian army, which protect drones from electronic warfare systems, as well as satellite receivers for GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo systems. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clarified that such modules are used in “Shahed” kamikaze drones, “Iskander” and “Kalibr” missiles, and aerial bombs.
