Weather in Ukraine on April 29: rain, sleet, and nighttime frost

29 April 01:14

On Wednesday, April 29, Ukraine will continue to experience unseasonably cold weather for late April. The wind will gradually die down following the recent storms, but frosts are expected again overnight, and daytime temperatures in most regions will not rise above 7–10 degrees. It will be slightly warmer in the south and southeast—up to 13 degrees. This was reported by meteorologist Natalka Didenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to her, on April 29, there will be a chance of precipitation across most of the country, and in the north and west, rain may turn to wet snow in some places.

What will the weather be like on April 29

According to the forecaster’s prediction, the cold weather will not let up on Wednesday. Frosts are expected in Ukraine at night, and during the day the air will warm up to only 7–10 degrees.

Temperatures will be slightly higher in the south and southeast of the country, where 9–13 degrees are forecast.

“The cold weather is sticking around for now. Frosts are expected at night, and tomorrow’s daytime high will be 7–10 degrees, with 9–13 degrees in the south and southeast,” noted Natalka Didenko.

Where rain and wet snow are possible

Dry weather on April 29 will be the exception rather than the rule. According to Didenko, it is difficult to identify a part of Ukraine where it would remain completely dry throughout the entire day.

There is a chance of precipitation across virtually the entire country. In the north and west, rain may be accompanied by wet snow.

“It’s difficult to pinpoint any part of Ukraine where it would be dry all day tomorrow, Wednesday—there’s a chance of precipitation practically everywhere. Moreover, in the north and west, rain may be accompanied by wet snow,” the meteorologist reported.

The wind will finally die down

After strong gusts of wind that caused damage in various regions the day before, the situation is expected to improve on Wednesday. A northwesterly wind is expected, but without storm-force gusts—ranging from light to moderate.

This means the weather will remain cold and unpleasant, but without the strong wind conditions seen earlier.

Weather in Kyiv on April 29

In Kyiv on the night of April 29, frosts are expected, and during the day temperatures will only reach 7–9 degrees. Rain is possible in some areas, and wet snow cannot be ruled out.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, frosts with air temperatures of 0–2 degrees are forecast in the capital on the nights of April 29 and 30. In the Kyiv region, temperatures may drop to 0–3 degrees on these nights. Such conditions can damage flowering fruit trees.

Why frosts are dangerous

Late April is the period when orchards are in bloom and early crops are actively growing. Frosts can be dangerous for fruit trees, berry bushes, seedlings, and young shoots.

The greatest risk is to blooming apricot, cherry, sour cherry, plum, apple, and pear trees. Even a brief drop in temperature below freezing can damage the blossoms or ovaries, which will subsequently affect the harvest.

When will it warm up?

According to Natalka Didenko’s forecast, the cold weather in Ukraine will linger a bit longer. On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise to 12–16 degrees. However, on Sunday, May 3, the south may see temperatures drop again to 8–11 degrees due to rain.

So, there won’t be any sustained spring warmth in the coming days: after a brief warming, some regions will feel the chill again.
