Global new car sales have reached nearly 100 million: where are the most cars sold?

According to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), global sales of new cars reached 99.8 million units in 2025. This is 4.7% more than in 2024, reports Ukravtoprom, as cited by "Komersant Ukrainian".
How many cars were sold
Sales in the passenger car segment totaled 70.98 million units, showing a 5% increase, while in the commercial vehicle segment, they totaled 28.82 million units (3.5%).
Largest markets
China remains the largest national automotive market, where 34.4 million cars were sold over the year, which is 9% more than in 2024.
- Passenger cars: 30.1 million units (9%)
- Commercial vehicles — 4.3 million units (11%)
The United States rankssecond in the ranking with 16.7 million vehicles (2%).

- Commercial vehicles — 14 million units (4%)
India ranks third with 5.5 million vehicles (5%).
- Passenger cars — 4.5 million units (5%)
- Commercial vehicles — 1 million units (8%)
Japanranks fourth with 4.5 million vehicles (3%).

- Commercial vehicles — 0.7 million units (5%)
Rounding out the top five is Germany — 3.2 million vehicles (0.5%).

As a reminder, gray becamethe most popular coloramong new passenger cars in Ukraine in the first quarter of 2026. These vehicles accounted for 36% of all initial registrations.
