Russia attacked a railway line in Zaporizhzhia and a port in Odesa: details of the damage

22 April 09:13

On April 22, 2026, Russian occupation forces launched strikes against Ukraine’s strategic transport infrastructure— the Zaporizhzhia-Liva railway yard and Odessa’s port infrastructure came under attack. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

In Zaporizhzhia, an assistant engineer was killed in the strike, and the engineer was hospitalized. In Odesa, fires broke out after drone strikes, damaging piers, warehouses, and railway infrastructure, though there were no casualties.

What happened at the Zaporizhzhia-Liva station

According to information released by Oleksiy Kuleba, an enemy UAV attacked the marshalling yard at the Zaporizhzhia-Liva station overnight. At the time of the strike, a train with an electric locomotive was on the tracks.

As a result of the attack, the assistant engineer sustained fatal injuries, and the engineer was taken to the hospital.

Earlier, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, also reported that one person was killed and another was wounded following a strike on transport infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia.

Consequences of the attack on Odesa’s port infrastructure

On April 22, the Russian army attacked Odesa with two waves of drones, and the enemy’s target was specifically the city’s port infrastructure.

The strikes caused fires, and damage was reported to berths, warehouses, railway infrastructure, and port operators’ facilities.

According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.

Why attacks on the railway and port are significant

The strike on the Zaporizhzhia-Liva station and Odessa’s port infrastructure indicates that Russia continues to target facilities that support logistics, transportation, and the functioning of the economy.

Such strikes pose risks not only to the transportation system but also to civilian workers who ensure the country’s smooth operation. In Zaporizhzhia, this has already resulted in the death of a railway worker and the injury of his colleague.

Oleksiy Kuleba called the attack further proof that Russia is waging war against civilians and those who are simply doing their jobs.
