Russia has damaged more than just the Assumption Cathedral: the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is closed to visitors

The grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve have been temporarily closed to visitors due to significant damage caused by Russian shelling. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a post by the reserve on Facebook.
“Due to the massive Russian attack on the night of June 15, which caused significant damage to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra are temporarily closed to visitors,” the post states.
They noted that an enemy “suicide drone” struck the altar area of the Assumption Cathedral—specifically, the St. Stephen’s Chapel.
In addition, a second strike damaged the Tower of John Kushnik—a 17th-18th-century defensive structure that is part of the Upper Lavra’s fortification complex.
“Emergency rescue operations are currently underway. To ensure public safety and preserve the monuments, access to the Lavra grounds for visitors is restricted until these operations are completed. We will provide an update on the date of reopening,” the statement reads.
As a reminder, Kyiv bore the brunt of the attacks last night. Attacks were recorded in several districts of the capital, including Obolon, Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Holosiivskyi.
According to preliminary data, four people were killed in Kyiv, and another 23 were injured, including a child. Fires broke out in the city, and residential buildings, civilian infrastructure facilities, stores, warehouses, and vehicles were damaged.
