Armenia’s Central Election Commission has announced the election results: Pashinyan’s party will form the government on its own

15 June 07:15

On Sunday, June 14, Armenia’s Central Election Commission announced the final results of the parliamentary elections held last Sunday. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, as cited by "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the final results, only three political forces will be represented in the current parliament: the “Civic Contract” party of incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as well as two pro-Russian parties—”Strong Armenia” led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan and the “Armenia” bloc led by former President Robert Kocharyan.

In terms of numbers:

  • 49.75% of voters cast their ballots for the pro-European “Civic Contract” (the party will receive 64 seats out of 101);
  • 23.27% voted for “Strong Armenia” (29 seats);
  • 9.92% voted for the “Armenia” bloc (12 seats).

Incidentally, the number of seats won by Pashinyan’s party effectively allows it to form a new government on its own.

Another point of intrigue in these elections was whether the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) would pass the threshold. The reason is that the PPA’s vote count increased by 147 following a recount, but since the results from three polling stations were declared invalid, the party lost 222 votes and failed to meet the 4% threshold.

However, if the Central Election Commission decides to hold a re-vote at these three polling stations, the PPA will most likely gain the few dozen votes it needs to enter the new parliament.
