Six people were killed in Brazil when two helicopters collided, including the well-known American singer Oliver Tree and the Argentine YouTuber Gaspi. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Details of the plane crash

The tragedy occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 14, in the Recêmio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood in the southwest of Rio de Janeiro.

According to preliminary data from the fire department, the aircraft collided mid-air and then crashed onto a parking lot for electric vehicles. The crash of the burning aircraft sparked a massive fire that destroyed at least 20 vehicles.

There were five people on board the first helicopter: American performer Oliver Tri Nickell, Argentine blogger Gaspi (Gaspar Prim), two other passengers, and the pilot. All of them were killed.

The second aircraft carried only the pilot, Charles Marcillac, who also sustained fatal injuries. According to his relatives, he was a highly experienced aviator.

Fire department spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Fabio Contreras noted that the scale of the tragedy could have been much greater.

“Parts of the plane are scattered over hundreds of meters, so the information we have is still very preliminary. Given the surrounding residential buildings, the accident could have been much more tragic,” he told reporters.

He also added that extinguishing the fire was complicated by the fact that the flames engulfed electric vehicles equipped with lithium-ion batteries. Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavalieri confirmed that foreign nationals are among the victims. Currently, the Brazilian Air Force and the criminal police are conducting a forensic examination and collecting video footage to determine the exact causes of the incident.

Who is Oliver Tri?

32-year-old American singer and producer Oliver Tri gained worldwide fame thanks to the hits “Life Goes On” and “When I’m Down.” He had over 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify and about 20 million followers on social media.

The artist arrived in Rio de Janeiro as part of his world tour—on June 6, he performed a concert in São Paulo, and was set to begin the European leg of the tour with a performance in Portugal in July. The singer posted his last Instagram update on June 13, the day before his death, sharing photos from a music studio.

Air Disasters Around the World

It is worth noting that a number of major aviation incidents have occurred around the world recently. In particular, in January 2026, a Beechcraft 1900 crashed in Colombia with 15 people on board.

The aircraft, which was operating a charter flight for a state-owned carrier, disappeared from radar during a plane crash near the border with Venezuela in a mountainous and remote area. At the time, it was reported that local politicians may have been among the victims.

In addition, a major tragedy occurred in the Hawaiian Islands. A tourist helicopter crashed on the remote and inaccessible Kalalau Beach on the island of Kauai. The crash occurred in an area with rugged terrain and sudden weather changes, resulting in three people dying at the scene and two others sustaining serious injuries.
