Syrsky and Gnatov Will Remain in Their Posts: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Issues a Statement

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that reports of Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi’s dismissal are untrue. This was announced on the General Staff’s page on Monday, July 20, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The statement noted that Syrskyi continues to perform his duties as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Reports circulating in the media, particularly on social media and in some news outlets, regarding the alleged dismissal of General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are untrue. General Oleksandr Syrskyi continues to perform his duties as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the General Staff stated.
The General Staff also noted that Lieutenant General Andriy Gnativ, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, continues to perform his duties.
They emphasized that the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Chief of the General Staff can only occur on the basis of a corresponding decree by the President of Ukraine.
It should be noted that media outlets, citing sources in the Office of the President and the government, reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing to dismiss Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, and several leading candidates for the position are currently being considered.
According to the reports, potential candidates include Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty, Commander of the Third Army Corps of the Ground Forces Andriy Biletsky, Oleg Apostol , Commander of the Airborne Assault Forces ; and Colonel Ihor Obolensky, Commander of the National Guard’s “Chartia” Corps. In total, there are 11 candidates to replace Syrsky.
