There will be no cancellation of deferrals for students: MP explains what is actually being discussed in Parliament
7 May 18:56
MP Oleksandr Fedienko has refuted media reports alleging that the government is preparing to revoke deferments from military mobilization for students aged 35. According to him, the issue at hand was solely the problem of students in full-time programs who are not actually attending classes.
He spoke about this in a comment to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“This information has no basis whatsoever in terms of me having said such a thing. As was stated directly—as of today, approximately 200,000 students in the 25–35 age group have deferrals,” the MP explained.
According to Fedienko, about 20% of students in this category do not actually attend educational institutions.
“20% of these people have never attended classes at all, have never been to an educational institution, have never physically been there, and so on. And therefore, perhaps for that category of full-time students aged 25–35, if they do not attend an educational institution, there should be sanctions—they should be expelled,” he stated.

The MP emphasized that this is neither a draft law nor a resolution.
At the same time, the MP said he plans to appeal to the government regarding mechanisms to monitor men who travel abroad on leave and do not return to Ukraine.
“You know, this has become a bit of a scam here. They book a spot, immediately go on vacation, and off they go. But they don’t come back. And they’re still counted as being in the reserve,” he said.
Fedyenko also noted that some of his colleagues are in favor of a complete ban on foreign vacations for men on reserve duty.
“My colleagues are generally proposing to ban foreign vacations. Well, I at least want an initiative like that,” the MP added.

As a reminder, the procedure for applying for a deferment from mobilization changed in May. Certificates and documents for deferment are no longer submitted directly to the Territorial Recruitment Center.
Documents can be submitted in two ways:
- through the Administrative Service Center;
- online via the “Reserve” app.
You should contact the ASC if your documents are only available in paper form. The application review process takes 7 to 14 days. During this period, a person subject to military service cannot be mobilized or sent for a medical examination.
