27 May 06:15

A UN World Food Programme warehouse containing humanitarian aid was destroyed in Dnipro as a result of a Russian missile strike. The facility stored food intended to support 130,000 people living near the front lines. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the UN and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga

According to the UN World Food Programme, the strike occurred on May 25, 2026.

What is known about the strike on the UN warehouse in Dnipro

The warehouse in Dnipro was used for humanitarian operations by the UN World Food Programme in Ukraine. It stored food aid intended for civilians in communities near the front lines.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reported that a Russian Iskander missile struck the warehouse. According to him, humanitarian aid worth over $1.4 million was completely destroyed.

No WFP staff members were injured in the attack. WFP teams were on site assessing the extent of damage to the facility, vehicles, and aid supplies.

130,000 people could have been left without aid

At the time of the strike, the warehouse contained humanitarian food aid sufficient to support 130,000 people. These supplies were intended for people living near the front lines who depend on humanitarian support.

These are civilians who, due to the war, have lost stable access to food, work, housing, or basic services. The destruction of such supplies directly impacts the ability of humanitarian organizations to quickly deliver aid to those who need it most.

WFP has declared a violation of international humanitarian law

Richard Reagan, the UN World Food Programme’s representative in Ukraine, stated that attacks on humanitarian workers and civilian humanitarian infrastructure constitute a crime and a violation of international humanitarian law.

According to him, this warehouse in Dnipro has been struck for the second time. In November 2025, it was damaged by a drone strike.

Reagan also reported that over the past 18 months, the WFP has recorded more than 84 incidents affecting warehouses, vehicles, aid distribution points, and the property of local humanitarian partners in Ukraine.

Sybiga called on the UN Secretary-General to respond

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that Russia continues to attack humanitarian facilities despite repeated calls from the international community. He emphasized that such actions demonstrate Moscow’s disregard for international humanitarian law and for the United Nations itself.

Sybiga called on UN Secretary-General António Guterres to use all available tools and powers to force Russia to stop its attacks on humanitarian operations.

This is not the first attack on humanitarian facilities

The strike on the WFP warehouse in Dnipro is part of a broader pattern of attacks on humanitarian infrastructure in Ukraine. Previous reports have documented strikes on humanitarian convoys and facilities of international organizations assisting civilians in frontline regions.

Reuters also reported on a Russian strike on a UN agency warehouse in Dnipro, where $1 million worth of humanitarian aid was destroyed, including emergency shelter materials and hygiene kits for displaced persons and war victims.

These incidents complicate the work of humanitarian missions, as not only warehouses but also logistics, transportation, distribution points, and local partners delivering aid to civilians are under attack.
