Death of Brigade Commander Kononnikov: Colonel Killed by a Gunshot Wound

Colonel Vladimir Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade, who was found dead on Sunday, June 28, had a gunshot wound. Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances of his death. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the Zaporizhzhia Regional Police.
“In Zaporizhzhia, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a military officer. The commander of one of the military units was found dead with a gunshot wound. Information regarding this incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations; the legal classification is Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the statement reads.
The police statement does not specify the name of the deceased military officer, but earlier, the press service of the “South” Operational Command reported that Colonel Volodymyr Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade, was found unresponsive on Sunday.
“We report that on Sunday, June 28, Colonel Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Kononnikov, commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade, was found unresponsive,” the “South” Operational Command emphasized in a Facebook post.
In addition, the “South” Operational Command reported that law enforcement agencies were conducting initial investigative actions at the scene and had launched an internal investigation, while preliminary data initially showed no signs of a violent death, and final conclusions were to be drawn based on the results of a full range of investigative measures.
