Assassination attempt: Trump reveals details of the attack

26 April 10:12

U.S. President Donald Trump revealed details of the attack during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. An armed man rushed toward a security checkpoint—he was subdued by Secret Service agents. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Clash Report.

The hall was well secured

According to Trump, the hall was well-protected. An armed man carrying several weapons rushed toward the checkpoint from a distance of about 45 meters—far from the hall itself.

Secret Service agents neutralized the attacker. One of the guards sustained a gunshot wound at close range, but his bulletproof vest protected him—the officer is doing well.

Trump posted a close-up photo of the attacker, as well as surveillance footage from the scene.

Trump called the incident “very unexpected” and admitted that he wanted to stay at the event—according to him, he “fought as hard as he could,” but protocol required him to leave the building.

The president also revealed that he had been preparing a speech, which he described as “the most inappropriate ever delivered”—and promised to deliver it next time.

When asked by a reporter why this keeps happening to him, Trump replied:

“I’ve studied the history of assassination attempts—they always target the most influential people, like Abraham Lincoln. They don’t go after those who do nothing. We’ve done a lot,” he said.

The attacker has been detained. According to Trump, investigators have already gone to his apartment—he presumably lives in California.

Assassination attempts on Trump

In February 2026, a U.S. court sentenced Ryan Ruth to life in prison for attempting to shoot the president on a golf course in Florida in September 2024.

According to the investigation, he had been planning the attack for several weeks: he aimed his rifle through the bushes, but a Secret Service agent spotted him in time and fired a warning shot. Ruth fled, but was later apprehended.

A few months earlier, on July 13, 2024, at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump: one person was killed, two others were wounded, and the president himself suffered a bullet wound to the ear.

And in September 2025, a man was detained in Washington for pointing a laser pointer at Trump’s helicopter. In all these cases, attention was drawn to failures in the Secret Service’s operations or inadequate security measures.
