Student scholarships in Ukraine to double: timeline announced

Starting in September 2026, the amounts of academic and merit-based scholarships for students in Ukraine will increase significantly. In some categories, payments will nearly double—up to 20,000 hryvnias per month. This is reported on the government portal, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The 2026 State Budget of Ukraine allocates 6.6 billion hryvnias for the payment of academic and named scholarships to students at educational institutions. This is 1.2 billion hryvnias more than in 2025.

The 2026 State Budget was developed by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and approved by the Verkhovna Rada on December 3, 2025. The increased scholarship amounts will take effect on September 1, 2026.

Higher Education Institutions

Starting in September 2026, university students will receive updated scholarship amounts:

  • the President of Ukraine’s scholarship — from 10,000 to 20,000 UAH;
  • the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine scholarship — from 4,400 to 8,800 UAH;
  • the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine scholarship — from 4,000 to 8,000 UAH;
  • minimum academic scholarship — from 2,000 to 4,000 UAH;
  • increased academic scholarship (for exceptional achievements)—from 2,910 to 5,820 UAH;
  • sector-based scholarship — from 2,550 to 5,100 UAH;
  • increased field-specific scholarship — from 3,710 to 7,420 UAH.

Vocational pre-higher education institutions (colleges)

Increases are also provided for college students:

  • the President of Ukraine’s scholarship — from 7,600 to 15,200 UAH;
  • Scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine — from 3,320 to 6,640 UAH;
  • minimum academic scholarship — from 1,510 to 3,020 UAH;
  • increased academic scholarship (for exceptional achievements)—from 2,197 to 4,394 UAH;
  • sector-based scholarship — from 1,930 to 3,860 UAH;
  • increased sector-based scholarship — from 2,809 to 5,618 UAH.

The government notes that the increase in scholarships is part of a policy to support youth, develop human capital, and promote quality education in Ukraine.
