Cucumber Prices Plummet in Ukraine: The Main Reasons

13 June 18:11

This week, the Ukrainian market has seen a sharp drop in wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

This latest price drop is linked to an increase in the supply of cucumbers from summer greenhouses, primarily from the southern and western regions of the country.

Currently, the main sales of this product are taking place at prices of 30–55 UAH/kg ($0.67–1.22/kg), which is on average 33% cheaper than a week earlier. According to the project’s experts, the price drop is due to seasonal factors—the market is seeing a rapid increase in the supply of cucumbers from local farms.

A positive development for Ukrainian producers is that the price collapse occurred during the final weeks of sales for the first crop cycle. Currently, a number of local greenhouse complexes are actively cleaning out their greenhouses, and producers plan to begin sales of the second crop in the second half of the summer.

At the same time, Ukrainian greenhouse complexes are already selling cucumbers at an average price 20% lower than during the same period last year.
