Trump made a sharp statement about the war in Ukraine: “You have no cards”
5 March 23:58
US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Ukraine’s position on negotiations to end the war with Russia. He said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is allegedly “standing in the way” of a peace agreement and has “significantly fewer cards to play” in the negotiations. This was reported by Politico, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What Trump said
According to Trump, the Ukrainian authorities should work more actively to reach agreements on ending the war.
“Zelensky needs to get down to business and make a deal. It’s unbelievable that he’s getting in the way. You don’t have any cards. Now he has even fewer,” the US president said.
He also stressed that, in his opinion, Ukraine is gradually losing its negotiating position, while the Kremlin is allegedly showing a willingness to engage in dialogue.
Criticism of aid to Ukraine
Trump also criticized the previous US administration for providing military aid to Ukraine.
According to him, former President Joe Biden’s administration allegedly gave Ukraine ammunition for free, even though these resources could have been sold to allies in the Middle East.
Ukraine’s position
On March 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv was ready for negotiations to end the war.
According to him:
- ending hostilities remains Ukraine’s top priority;
- Ukraine is ready to discuss peace in any format;
- negotiations can resume when international partners are ready.
Ukraine is looking for new formats for negotiations
Earlier, Zelensky stated that Ukraine may seek alternative formats for negotiations if Russia refuses to engage in dialogue due to Kyiv’s unwillingness to agree to territorial concessions.
The Ukrainian authorities emphasize that any agreements must guarantee the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.
