FORECAST
Bread prices have risen again in Ukraine. The price of some types has already exceeded 50 hryvnias per loaf. Further price increases for this staple food are possible by the end of the year, according to a statement by Leonid Kozachenko, president of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, in a comment to "Komersant Ukrainian". According to him, key production factors continue to influence the cost of bread and other food products.
“Not only bread, but other food products may also become more expensive. This is because the cost components that are most critical for the production of various goods are not stopping,” Kozachenko emphasized.
First and foremost, this refers to the cost of fuel and electricity. These costs remain the determining factors for the baking industry.

According to the expert, a general trend toward rising prices has been observed for quite some time, but the situation remains under control for now.
“I don’t think this will be a very large increase,” he noted.
According to preliminary forecasts, prices may rise by approximately 20–25% by the end of the year compared to last year.
At the same time, farmers are closely monitoring weather conditions and the state of their crops. Currently, according to Kozachenko, the situation in the fields does not cause serious concern.
“We can see the condition of our crops right now. They’re looking good; they’re growing,” he explained.
Rain, which forecasters predict will fall across Ukraine in the near future, could provide additional support for the upcoming harvest.
However, rising fertilizer prices remain another challenge for the agricultural sector. This directly affects grain yields and production costs. Despite this, the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation is confident that there will be no grain shortage for the domestic market.
“We believe that regardless of the situation, Ukraine will have enough grain for its own market to produce bread,” emphasized Leonid Kozachenko.
At the same time, he cautioned that the situation could change in the event of a sharp rise in electricity prices or a deterioration in weather conditions.
The average price of bread as of May 2025 was 27.90 hryvnia. Therefore, by the end of the year, its price could exceed 35 hryvnia.
Although some premium bread varieties have already surpassed 50 hryvnias. For example, a 950-gram loaf of Stolichny rye bread costs an average of 51 hryvnias, compared to 49.85 hryvnias in April.
At the same time, a 300-gram loaf of Riga Borodynivsky rye bread is even more expensive. Today, its average price is 53.45 hryvnia, although last month it was sold for 52.36 hryvnia.
A 650-gram loaf of sliced wheat bread in supermarkets costs 47.99 hryvnia as of early May. In April, the price for such sliced bread was lower—45.73 hryvnia.
A 600-gram loaf of Tsar Khleb wheat bread will cost shoppers 52.03 hryvnia today, compared to 50.71 hryvnia a month ago.
