Cucumber prices are falling rapidly: the main reasons
25 April 10:12
Prices for greenhouse cucumbers continue to fall on Ukraine’s domestic market. According to daily monitoring by the EastFruit project, increased harvest volumes at Ukrainian greenhouse complexes, as well as low demand for greenhouse vegetables, remain the main factors driving the downward price trend in this segment, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
Thus, since the beginning of this week alone, prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have fallen by an average of 40%. Currently, these products are selling for between 50–90 UAH/kg ($1.14–2.05/kg).
The price decline in the segment is primarily due to an oversupply of greenhouse cucumbers on the market. Local greenhouse complexes have begun active harvesting and are steadily increasing supply volumes. At the same time, demand for greenhouse vegetables remains subdued, which continues to put pressure on prices. As a result, in order to boost sales and avoid accumulating large quantities of unsold produce in warehouses, sellers are forced to continue lowering their selling prices.
It is worth noting that greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are currently still being offered at an average price 15% higher than at the end of April 2025. At the same time, most market operators do not rule out a further decline in prices for greenhouse produce in the near future.
