The Turkish defense company Arca will build a factory in Estonia to produce artillery and mortar ammunition. The Estonian Defense Investment Center in Tallinn announced the agreement on Wednesday, April 22. The official agreement is scheduled to be signed in Turkey in early May, reports "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.

“An important step in the development of Estonia’s defense capabilities”

“The establishment of a facility for the production of large-caliber ammunition is an important step for Estonia in the further development of its defense capabilities and ammunition manufacturing industry,” emphasized Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.

According to the statement, the plant is planned to produce 155mm artillery ammunition, mortar rounds of various calibers, and 122mm rockets. The Estonian subsidiary of the Turkish manufacturer is investing €300 million in the construction of the plant, thereby creating up to 1,000 jobs. The Estonian government will provide a 141-hectare plot of land in an industrial park for the plant. Production is scheduled to begin in 2028.

Estonia rejected Rheinmetall’s proposal

Latvia and Lithuania, following the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, signed similar agreements with the defense giant Rheinmetall from Düsseldorf.

Estonia rejected the German manufacturer’s proposal and announced an open tender for the construction of an ammunition plant. According to previous statements by Pevkur, Rheinmetall did not participate in the tender.
