Which regions are facing the most serious power supply issues: what Svyrydenko says

12 January 16:08

A conference call was held in Ukraine with all regions to discuss the state of the country’s power grid and essential services following a new wave of Russian attacks.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that restoration work is continuing under extremely difficult conditions—under shelling, at temperatures below −10°C, and with power lines iced over, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the head of government, as of January 12, the most critical power situation remains:

  • in certain districts of Kyiv;
  • on the left bank of the Kyiv region, particularly in the Boryspil and Brovary districts.

The government is focusing particular attention on the Odesa, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions, where energy facilities were damaged during nighttime shelling.

What energy workers and authorities are doing

Energy workers are operating under emergency conditions, restoring electricity and heat supply to residential buildings. At the same time, the government emphasizes:

  • critical infrastructure is operating without interruption;
  • over 7,000 Resilience Points have been deployed across the country;
  • traffic on major highways is maintained, with roads being cleared by specialized equipment;
  • local authorities are coordinating the operation of educational institutions, taking into account weather conditions and the state of the power grid.

On the night of January 12, Russian troops attacked energy facilities in seven regions simultaneously, leading to widespread power outages.

The situation was complicated by weather conditions:

  • 161 settlements in the Kyiv region were left without power,
  • 48 in Zakarpattia,
  • 36 in Dnipropetrovsk,
  • and 15 in Chernihiv Oblast.

Repair crews from the regional power company are working to restore the damaged power lines.

The restoration of the power grid is under constant monitoring

The government states that the restoration of the power grid is under constant monitoring, and coordination with the heads of regional military administrations is ongoing around the clock.

The main task, according to Svyrydenko, is to restore electricity and heat supply to all homes, despite the attacks and harsh winter conditions.
