Zelenskyy warned of new Russian attacks on Ukraine

11 May 22:50

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine is preparing for new attacks from Russia. Zelenskyy made this statement during an evening address on May 11, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to him, despite statements about a ceasefire, there has been no real cessation of hostilities on the front lines. The head of state emphasized that Russia shows no intention of ending the war, so Ukraine continues to work to protect its independence and the safety of its citizens.

What Zelenskyy said

In his address, the president noted that there was no ceasefire on the front lines on May 11, and hostilities continued.

“Today there was no ceasefire on the front lines; there was fighting. We have documented all of this. We also see that Russia has no intention of ending this war; unfortunately, we are preparing for new attacks,” Zelenskyy stated.

At the same time, the president emphasized that Ukraine continues to work for peace, but the key priorities remain the defense of the state, independence, and the safety of the people.

“But there must be peace. We are working precisely toward that. The defense of Ukraine, Ukraine’s independence, and the safety of our people—these are the most important things,” the head of state added.

The president’s warning came after announcements of a three-day ceasefire, which was supposed to be in effect on May 9, 10, and 11. However, according to Zelenskyy, hostilities on the front lines did not cease.

The Ukrainian side has repeatedly emphasized that Russia violated the ceasefire and continued shelling and assaults.

As early as May 8, Zelenskyy stated that there had not even been a “pretense of an attempt” by the Russian side to cease fire on the front lines. At that time, the president emphasized that Ukraine would respond in kind and defend its positions and the lives of its people.

What analysts say about the situation on the front lines

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War previously noted that despite the declared ceasefire, hostilities on the front lines had not completely ceased.

At the same time, in certain areas, particularly in northern Ukraine, the intensity of hostilities may have decreased.

In the south, according to reports from Vladislav Voloshin, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Russian troops continued to carry out dozens of assaults even during the declared “ceasefire.”

According to him, the intensity of hostilities on the part of the Russian Federation remained nearly at the previous level.

In his address, the president also mentioned preparations for military reform. According to him, the military command and the Ministry of Defense are continuing to work on changes, which are scheduled to begin in June.

This is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and adapt the army to the conditions of a protracted war.
