5G Has Been Launched in Kyiv: In Which Areas of the Capital Does the Network Work?

A pilot 5G network has gone live in central Kyiv; specifically, all mobile operators have provided coverage on Khreshchatyk Street. This was announced by Oleksandr Bornyakov, acting Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Despite the full-scale war, Ukraine continues to move forward. Today, Kyiv joined the 5G pilot project, Bornyakov wrote.
The network is available in the capital’s city center—from Independence Square to Bessarabska Square—as well as at select locations of mobile operators. No SIM card replacement is required to connect. All you need is a 5G-enabled smartphone and to be within the coverage area.
“Today, 5G is already available in central Kyiv and at additional locations operated by mobile carriers,” Bornyakov wrote.
According to Bornyakov, the Ministry of Digital Transformation has been working on launching 5G in the capital for the past six months. During the pilot project, they plan to test the equipment and network under real-world conditions, as well as assess the infrastructure’s readiness for scaling up.
Odessa is set to be the next city in the pilot project.

During preliminary tests, mobile internet speeds exceeded 1 Gbit/s, and the average speed for users was 600–700 Mbit/s.
The pilot is intended to test the network’s performance under varying loads, assess coverage and equipment quality, and collect data for the future scaling of the technology.
Previously, 5G was tested in Lviv, Borodianka, and Kharkiv. During that time, nearly 1.5 million subscribers used the network, and more than 300 base stations for the pilot network were launched across Ukraine.
Full-scale 5G deployment across the country is planned after martial law ends.
As a reminder, a 5G pilot network was launched in January in the center of Lviv—the first in Ukraine—with data transfer speeds of approximately 500 Mbit/s per subscriber.
Lviv was chosen as a “technology lab” ahead of the national rollout: the city has one of the highest penetration rates of 5G-ready smartphones, and more than 20 next-generation base stations have already been built there.
Subsequently, 5G was launched in Borodianka and Kharkiv—the latter becoming the third Ukrainian city to test fifth-generation connectivity.
