Bus fares in Kyiv are set to rise starting August 1: new prices

Bus fares in Kyiv will increase starting August 1. On most routes, the fare will rise to 25 hryvnias. Ihor Moiseenko, head of the “Association of Carriers of Kyiv and the Kyiv Region,” announced this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What will the new fares be?
According to Moiseenko, starting August 1, most private carriers will operate under the new fares.
“Fares on minibuses in Kyiv will increase starting August 1. We are forced to do this because fuel prices are rising almost every day,” he said.
Thus, on routes where the fare is currently 20 hryvnias, passengers will pay 25 hryvnias. At the same time, minibuses that previously charged 10 hryvnias will increase their fare to 20 hryvnias per trip. The final decision was made on July 30.

Why Carriers Raised Prices
As Moiseenko explained, the decision is not solely due to rising fuel costs. According to him, transport operators are also facing a severe shortage of drivers, increased costs for vehicle repairs, and rising prices for spare parts and lubricants.
He noted that there are almost no routes left in Kyiv where a shortage of drivers is not felt. The situation, he said, has been complicated by legislative changes that took effect on June 1 and made it more difficult to exempt drivers from mobilization.
In addition, some employees refuse to work on routes that pass through checkpoints due to the risk of delays and difficulties with passage. According to the carriers, this creates additional problems in ensuring the stable operation of the route network.
Another factor has been the rising cost of spare parts, lubricants, and other consumables due to the strengthening of the dollar. All of this, the transit operators note, has significantly increased the cost of passenger transportation and forced them to revise their fares.
As a reminder, public transportation fares in Kyiv have already increased as of July 15. A ride on the metro, buses, trolleybuses, trams, and the funicular now costs 30 hryvnias.
