The United Kingdom has denied rumors of Starmer’s imminent resignation

21 June 22:12

British Minister for Business and Trade Peter Kyle has dismissed as untrue reports that Prime Minister Keir Starmer is preparing to step down. In an interview on Sunday, June 21, he stated that he sees no reason to believe these reports are true and dismissed them as political speculation. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.

Kyle also rejected claims that Starmer has lost influence within the government. According to him, the prime minister continues to effectively carry out his duties and achieve results on the international stage. As an example, the minister cited Starmer’s talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit, which helped advance a trade agreement between the two countries.

According to Trump, the British prime minister has failed on issues of immigration policy and energy. The U.S. president also wished Starmer luck, presenting his possible resignation as a done deal.

As previously reported by the BBC

Earlier, the BBC reported, citing sources in the government and the ruling Labour Party, that the mood surrounding Starmer’s future had shifted noticeably in recent days. According to the broadcaster, an increasing number of officials were acknowledging the possibility that the prime minister could announce the timing of his departure as early as Monday, June 22.

As the BBC noted, pressure on Starmer intensified following a drop in his popularity, internal party discontent, and a series of high-profile resignations within the government. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham was named as the most likely successor, with many Labour members viewing him as a potential new party leader and head of government.

Starmer himself has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of resigning and plans to continue serving as prime minister.
