Ukraine is losing the battle for migrants, says an economist

Ukraine remains, for now, a transit country for migrant workers. Most of them view our country merely as a stopover on their way to Poland, the Czech Republic, or Germany.
Economist Andriy Novak discussed this on the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
The main reason is income levels. According to the expert, for the same work in Poland, a person can earn two to three times more than in Ukraine. In France or the United Kingdom, the difference can be as much as tenfold.
Citing official data, Novak noted that Ukraine has the lowest income level among European countries.
“The richest country, the poorest people. Unfortunately,” Novak noted.
At the same time, the economist pointed out an interesting fact. Some foreigners who planned to travel further into Europe end up staying in Ukraine. They appreciate the people’s attitude, the level of digital services, and the accessibility of healthcare.

According to Novak, after the war, the state’s main task should be to increase incomes and improve the quality of life.
“This is precisely what can stop the outflow of Ukrainians abroad and make the country more attractive to workers from other countries,” he noted.
