Ukraine has purchased $110 million worth of bananas this year
30 June 18:12
From January through May 2026, Ukraine imported 107.3 thousand metric tons of bananas and plantains. The total value of the products purchased abroad amounted to $110 million. This was reported by AgroTimes, as cited by "Komersant Ukrainian".
Latin America remains the main partner for Ukrainian importers:
- Ecuador —the traditional leader in shipments, accounting for 73.1% of total imports;
- Colombia accounted for 11.1% of the market;
- Costa Rica accounted for 8.7%. The remainder came from other producing countries.
Bananas firmly maintain their status as one of the most popular imported fruits in Ukraine. This is driven by stable year-round consumer demand and well-established channels for regular shipments.
For comparison, over the entire 12-month period of 2025, Ukraine purchased 223.8 thousand metric tons of bananas from abroad for a total of $231.4 million.
Current procurement rates for the first five months indicate that, if this trend continues, the annual figures for 2026 are likely to match or even slightly exceed last year’s results.
