It is important for Ukraine that the United States expand cooperation in the energy sector, particularly through joint projects with the state-owned Naftogaz group.

This was reported by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko following a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright during the Three Seas Initiative summit held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The parties discussed issues related to the restructuring of the energy system and preparations for the peak electricity consumption period in the summer.

“We invite American companies to cooperate in restoring gas infrastructure damaged by massive shelling, as well as to establish long-term cooperation aimed at modernizing and replacing outdated equipment,” the head of government emphasized.

According to Yulia Svyrydenko, the regional resilience plans currently being actively implemented by the government take into account the lessons learned from Russia’s massive attacks on energy infrastructure last winter. Particular attention is being paid to the need to protect water supply and wastewater treatment facilities in light of the aggressor’s attempts to target them.

“Some of these projects are already under review by the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund (URIF), which will soon celebrate its anniversary,” the statement reads.

Separately, Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized the importance of cooperation with EXIM Bank to support the implementation of key energy projects and strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience.

The parties also discussed the situation on the global fuel market, particularly in light of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine invited the U.S. Secretary of Energy to visit Ukraine.

As a reminder: earlier, Ukraine and the U.S. discussed the possibility of securing $1.4 billion in loan assistance from the DFC (U.S. International Development Finance Corporation) to modernize energy equipment, particularly for gas production, and to strengthen cooperation with the U.S. Exim Bank.
