Ukrainians can now travel to the EU by train without transfers: flight schedule

Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced several new direct international routes thanks to the opening of a European standard gauge. Now passengers can travel from Uzhhorod to several European cities without interruption. This was reported by the company’s press service on the Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
New destinations
The first flights started on Friday, September 12.
The trains started running on the Euro gauge:
- no. 961/618 Uzhhorod – Bratislava;
- no. 146 Uzhhorod – Budapest – Vienna.
According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Communities and Territories Development, 280 passengers took advantage of the first direct connection. Trains run daily according to the following schedule:
- Uzhhorod → Bratislava: departure at 08:09, arrival at 18:33;
- Bratislava → Uzhhorod: 11:27 → 22:35;
- Uzhhorod→ Budapest → Vienna: departure at 08:09, Budapest 14:20, arrival in Vienna 17:20;
- Vienna → Budapest → Uzhhorod: 10:42 → 13:19 → 22:35.
“This is a symbol of integration into the EU’s common transport space. Already today, passengers from Uzhhorod can directly reach Bratislava, Budapest, and Vienna. The next step is to scale up such projects and expand convenient European routes for Ukrainians,” Kuleba said.
In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia has launched the route No. 644/647 Zahony – Berehove – Borzhava, which directly connects Transcarpathia with Hungary. Záhony is a key interchange hub with numerous flights.
Ticket prices
Tickets for direct international flights can be purchased through the UZ mobile application, the official website of the carrier, as well as on the platforms of Hungarian and Slovak railways. Approximate cost:
- Uzhhorod → Bratislava: from UAH 2,225 (second class);
- Uzhhorod → Budapest: from UAH 1,220 (second class), from UAH 1,802 (first class);
- Uzhhorod → Vienna: from 2,221 UAH (second class), from 3,516 UAH (first class).
If necessary, tickets can be returned online. The closer the train departure is, the smaller the amount of money will be refunded. If a person misses the flight, the refund is given an hour after the delay.
