The cost of electricity for businesses in Ukraine could rise by 60–70% by the end of 2025 due to increases in electricity transmission and distribution rates.

This was stated by Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Utility Consumers, in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, the current rate hikes are primarily affecting businesses, while rates for residential customers remain unchanged.

“Our rates are rising anyway, but they’re rising not for the general public, but for businesses,” Popenko noted.

Since the beginning of the year, the electricity transmission tariff has already been revised several times. Specifically, it rose by 18% on January 1 and by another 11% on April 1. In addition, according to Popenko, the regulator may soon adopt a new decision to raise the tariff.

“They are proposing a decision to raise electricity transmission tariffs by nearly 22% starting July 1,” he said.

Also, he noted, tariffs for electricity distribution system operators were previously raised, which will also affect the final cost of the resource for businesses. Popenko believes that the cumulative effect of these decisions will place a significant financial burden on businesses.

“We’re not talking about 3–5%. The increase in the cost of electricity transmission this year alone will reach 60–70% by the end of the year. These are catastrophic figures for businesses,” he emphasized.

According to the expert, the situation on the electricity market, where significant price fluctuations have been observed throughout the year, is also creating additional pressure on businesses.
