The United Kingdom is imposing new sanctions on Russia: the “shadow” fleet and financial institutions are being targeted

The United Kingdom has announced that during the G7 summit in Evian, France, Prime Minister Keir Starmer will announce new sanctions against Russia and additional energy support for Ukraine. This was reported by the British government’s press service, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing “Ukrinform.”
The statement notes that the UK “will target its sanctions directly at Russia’s illegal shadow fleet and the financial networks used to circumvent Western sanctions.”
The UK is also expected to become the first country to impose sanctions on several liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers transporting Russian LNG subject to sanctions.
This package of measures will increase the number of shadow fleet vessels and Russian LNG carriers subject to UK sanctions to over 600.
The new measures will also target a network linked to the Russian state that is involved in the covert acquisition of Western technology for the Russian armed forces, as well as targeting several third-country suppliers who are helping Russia illegally move funds around the world.
“The UK is stepping up the pressure—cutting off the revenue streams that fund Putin’s war and providing Ukraine with the resources it needs for the coming winters. Putin must withdraw his tanks, stop his barbaric attacks, and come to the negotiating table,” Starmer said in a statement.
Britain will also provide support to Ukrainian nuclear power plants over the next two years, providing £210 million ($282 million) from UK Export Finance, which will allow the British company Urenco to supply enriched uranium to the Ukrainian nuclear energy producer Energoatom. The agreement was reached between the British Prime Minister and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their meeting at Downing Street last week.
The financing provided by UKEF is based on a previous two-year agreement to supply nuclear fuel to Ukraine.
