Transporting Fuel to Crimea: Ukraine Strikes 12 More Tankers in the Sea of Azov
9 July 17:18
Ukrainian drones continue to attack Russian tankers attempting to deliver fuel to Crimea, much of which has been without electricity and water for the fourth day in a row due to strikes on the energy infrastructure, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, head of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces.
On the night of July 9, 12 more oil tankers belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet were struck in the Sea of Azov, along with one dry cargo ship and one tugboat, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi said. Over the past four days, according to the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, drones have attacked 35 tankers and other vessels in the Sea of Azov. The strikes on the vessels are confirmed by video footage of the attacks.

These include the tankers “Aura,” “Chelsea-6,” “Sonar-1,” “Venera-3,” “Penelope,” the vessel “Mercury”—whose type has not yet been determined—and the tugboat “Alfeo” with the barge “Aphrodite,” all of which were sailing under the Russian flag. The tanker “Ilya Repin” is directly owned by Russia, while the oil tanker “Galiaskhar Kamal” was flying the Panamanian flag. Information regarding five other vessels is being verified.
“All the tankers have been identified; they are part of the ‘shadow fleet’ and are subject to international sanctions,” Magyar stated.
The day before, he stated that nine Russian tankers had been destroyed in the Sea of Azov.
All of these vessels, which were carrying fuel, were used, among other things, “to supply fuel and lubricants to Russian Federation military units, as well as to transport oil and petroleum products in circumvention of international sanctions” and helped finance military operations against Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasizes.
For the fourth day in a row, the occupying authorities in Crimea have been unable to restore power, which was disrupted as a result of massive Ukrainian attacks on substations and power plants in the region. There is no electricity in Virmens’k, Dzhankoy, Krasnoperekopsk, and the Dzhankoy and Krasnoperekopsk districts. In Yevpatoria, Kerch, Simferopol, and other cities and districts, electricity is being restored in stages. As a result, power supply issues have affected at least 18 of the peninsula’s 29 cities and districts. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), more than 50 power facilities were struck in Crimea between July 1 and July 8.
