How Amazon Optimizes Delivery Using Robots

4 June 14:54

Amazon, a leader in the e-commerce sector, continues to invest in innovations that could transform the logistics industry.

As early as next year, Amazon plans to launch a new mobile robot powered by artificial intelligence.

This is reported by Reuters, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the publication, the new technology is called Proteus and will be implemented in the company’s warehouses, ensuring faster and more efficient delivery.

Proteus Robot: Features and Capabilities

The Proteus robot is part of Amazon’s €10 billion ($11.6 billion) investment program aimed at developing its European logistics network. It is capable of responding to voice commands and independently managing optimal logistics.

Scott Dresser, Vice President of Amazon Robotics, noted:

“You tell it what needs to be done. And it determines the priorities, route, and timing on its own.”

This marks a new era of interaction between workers and robots in warehouses.

“In addition to Proteus, Amazon has demonstrated several other innovations. Among them is the STARK robotic system for handling containers, which has already been tested in Barcelona. STARK is scheduled to be deployed at 15 European facilities by 2027,” writes Reuters.

Another innovation is the Vulcan robot, which can sense touch, adding a new level of interaction to process automation.

Expansion of Alexa Delivery and Services

Amazon continues to expand its logistics capabilities. The company plans to open more than 25 “nearly same-day” delivery points across Europe, including in the UK and Germany.

There are also plans to expand the Amazon Now service to Manchester and Birmingham in the UK.

Fresh food delivery is already available in over 2,300 U.S. cities and certain areas of Tokyo, with further expansion plans in Japan, the UK, and other countries.

In addition, Amazon announced the launch of Alexa, a new generation of artificial intelligence assistant, in 10 additional countries by 2027.

As a reminder, in May, Amazon consolidated its logistics services (road, sea, and air transport) into a new offering (Amazon Supply Chain Services), which boosted the company’s stock price.

What is known about the company

Amazon is the largest marketplace and a global e-commerce giant headquartered in Seattle, USA. The company sells a wide variety of goods online and handles their delivery, achieving incredible success without having its own products.

Many factors contributed to these results: a strict management model, a relentless drive for growth and expansion, and its own recruitment system.

Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994. The company started as an online marketplace for books but later expanded to sell electronics, software, video games, clothing, furniture, food, toys, and jewelry

In January 2025, according to the annual Brand Finance Global 500 study, Amazon’s value (compared to 2024) increased by 15% to $356.4 billion.

In July 2021, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with Amazon. The use of Amazon Web Services is expected to accelerate the development of cloud technologies in Ukraine, drive digital transformation, and foster innovation.
