President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded to US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s call to dismiss Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US Oksana Markarova over alleged interference in the US election, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

In an interview with the US TV channel Fox News, Zelenskyy said that “with all due respect” he could not discuss the dismissal of Ukraine’s ambassador to the US with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

“I am the president of Ukraine, and I can only discuss our ambassadors with the speaker of my country. This is the Constitution, I cannot discuss it with Speaker Johnson, with all due respect, so this is not the issue,” he said.

on 25 September, Mike Johnson in his X called on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to immediately dismiss Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova. The speaker accused Markarova of organising Zelenskyy’s visit to a factory in Pennsylvania where weapons are produced for Ukraine. Zelenskyy was accompanied by representatives of the Democratic Party, but no Republicans were invited. Johnson said that Zelenskyy’s visit was “clearly a campaign event and clearly election interference”.

The US House of Representatives Oversight Committee has launched an investigation into President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s flight to Pennsylvania to visit an ammunition plant “using US taxpayer money”.

It is noted that the Committee is to determine “whether the Biden-Harris administration attempted to use a foreign leader to benefit Vice President Harris’s presidential campaign, and if so, whether this is a clear abuse of power”.

Oksana Markarova has been serving as Ukraine’s Ambassador to Washington since April 2021.
