27.5 trillion hryvnia passed through accounts in Ukraine: who transferred the most?
13 August 04:47
In the first six months of 2026, individuals and businesses carried out more than 1.4 billion payment transactions within Ukraine using credit transfers and direct debits.
Detailed statistics were released by the National Bank of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
How Much Money Was Transferred in Ukraine
Credit transfers remained the most popular payment method. From January through June 2026, approximately 1.4 billion such transactions were carried out within Ukraine, totaling nearly 27.5 trillion hryvnia.
By comparison, in the first half of 2025, 1.6 billion transactions totaling 22.5 trillion hryvnia were carried out.
Thus, over the course of the year:
- the number of domestic credit transfers decreased by approximately 13%;
- the total value of transactions increased by nearly 5 trillion UAH, or 22%;
- the average amount per transfer increased significantly.
Thus, Ukrainians and companies made fewer individual transactions but transferred significantly larger amounts.
Ukrainians lead in number of transactions, while businesses lead in total amount
In the first half of the year, 1.1 billion credit transfers were made from individual accounts. This represents 77.18% of the total number of such transactions within the country.
However, legal entities and entrepreneurs accounted for the bulk of the funds. A total of 25.6 trillion UAH was transferred from business accounts—93.13% of the total amount of domestic credit transfers.
In other words, while the general public used transfers more frequently, the average transaction amounts for businesses were much larger.
Credit transfer and direct debit services were provided by 60 Ukrainian banks and three non-bank financial institutions in the first half of 2026.
How Much Money Was Sent to Ukraine
From January through June 2026, more than 4 million credit transfers totaling the equivalent of $36.95 billion were made from abroad to Ukraine.
During the corresponding period in 2025, 5.5 million transactions totaling $32.68 billion were processed.
Thus:
- the number of remittances to Ukraine decreased by approximately 27%;
- their total amount increased by $4.27 billion, or 13%.
Nearly 2.7 million remittances were received by individuals—66.22% of the total number. However, $35.31 billion, or 95.55% of the total amount received, went to business entities, primarily under foreign economic contracts.
The largest amounts of money came from:
- from European Union countries—47.18%;
- from Switzerland — 19.04%;
- from the United States — 11.04%.
These statistics cover not only private money transfers to Ukrainians but also payments made by companies for the export of goods and services.
Over $50 billion was transferred from Ukraine
The volume of credit transfers abroad also increased. In the first half of 2026, over 1.4 million transactions totaling the equivalent of $50.62 billion were made from Ukraine.
A year earlier, there were 1.1 million such transactions, totaling $40.71 billion.
Over the course of the year:
- the number of transfers increased by approximately 27%;
- the total amount increased by $9.91 billion, or 24%.
Business accounted for nearly the entire volume of funds. Ukrainian companies made about 600,000 transfers totaling $50.31 billion under foreign economic contracts.
Business accounted for 99.4% of the total amount of cross-border credit transfers from Ukraine.
The largest shares of funds were directed:
- to EU countries — 61.51%;
- to Switzerland — 9.26%;
- to the U.S. — 5.56%.
Therefore, the figure of $50.62 billion should not be interpreted as an amount withdrawn by individuals. Virtually the entire volume is related to international payments by Ukrainian companies, specifically for the purchase of goods and services.
Direct debit is gaining popularity
The National Bank also recorded a noticeable increase in direct debit transactions.
In the first six months of 2026, 1.9 million such payments totaling 10.54 billion hryvnias were made in Ukraine. In the first half of 2025, 1.1 million transactions totaling 7.1 billion hryvnias were processed.
Therefore:
- the number of transactions increased by approximately 73%;
- the total amount increased by nearly 49%.
Direct debit allows the payee to initiate a withdrawal from the payer’s account based on prior consent. This mechanism can be used for regular payments for utilities, insurance, subscriptions, and other recurring payments.
What Is a Credit Transfer
A credit transfer is a transfer initiated by the account holder. This category includes payments between bank accounts, settlements between businesses and their counterparties, and some international transactions.
The statistics do not cover all bank card payments as a separate category. The National Bank has been collecting data on credit transfers and direct debits since 2023 in accordance with the approaches of the European Central Bank.
Figures for the first half of 2026 show that money circulation through Ukrainian accounts is growing even as the number of individual domestic transactions declines. At the same time, businesses remain the main source of large sums, while households account for the majority of transactions by volume.
