U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Greenland, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, has arrived in Nuuk for a multi-day visit. This was reported by AFP and the local newspaper Sermitsiaq, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
This is Landry’s first visit to this autonomous territory of Denmark since taking office. On May 19 and 20, the Republican will participate in the Future Greenland 2026 economic forum, which is being held to attract investors, political and business leaders to stimulate investment in the region.
The American delegation brought MAGA caps
Landry arrived accompanied by about seven other people. About five private cars pulled up to the plane on the runway, Sermitsiaq reports.
When asked by a DR reporter who spoke with the special envoy in the city center, Jeff Landry shared the advice Trump gave him before the trip.
“He said, ‘Go there and make lots of friends—as many friends as possible,'” the Republican noted.
According to Sermitsiaq, the American delegation, which is staying at a hotel in downtown Nuuk, brought boxes of MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) caps with them.
U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Ken Gauery will arrive in Greenland on May 18.
They will hold joint meetings with a wide range of Greenlandic residents to listen to them and learn their views with the aim of expanding economic opportunities, strengthening interpersonal ties, and deepening mutual understanding between the United States and Greenland, according to a statement from the U.S. Embassy received by AFP.
