Doroshchuk won the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships

Ukrainian track and field athlete Oleg Doroshchuk won a silver medal in the high jump at the 2026 European Championships. In the final, held in Birmingham, UK, he was second only to Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi.
Doroshchuk finished the competition with a jump of 2.30 meters. The Ukrainian athlete did not make a single mistake up to that height. This was reported by the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The silver medal marks Doroshchuk’s best result at the European Outdoor Championships. In 2024 in Rome, he won the bronze medal.
How Doroshchuk Performed in the Final
The Ukrainian began his competition at 2.18 meters and cleared it on his first attempt. He also cleared the following heights without a single miss:
- 2.23 meters;
- 2.27 meters;
- 2.30 meters.
After clearing 2.30 meters, Doroshchuk continued to battle for the gold medal alongside Gianmarco Tamberi.
The decisive height was 2.32 meters. The Ukrainian used all three attempts, but the bar did not stay up. His first jump came closest to success—after which the fans had already begun celebrating—but the athlete still knocked the bar down.
Tamburi cleared 2.32 meters on his second attempt and defended his European title. Another Italian, Matteo Siooli, took the bronze medal with a jump of 2.27 meters.

What Doroshchuk said after winning silver
Despite the medal and a flawless series up to 2.30 meters, the Ukrainian track and field athlete was dissatisfied with the technical execution of his jumps.
In his comments after the final, Doroshchuk stated that he was unable to fully demonstrate his readiness and that with better technique, he could have achieved a much higher result.
“I’m jumping without proper technique, without landing in the right position. If I’d done it correctly, the result would have been much higher,” Champion quotes the athlete as saying.

Over the course of the last three outdoor European Championships, Oleg Doroshchuk has consistently improved both his ranking and his results.

Over the course of four years, the Ukrainian athlete rose from fourth place to the silver medal on the podium, and his result at the continental championships improved by seven centimeters.
Doroshchuk is also the reigning European and world indoor champion. In March 2026, he became the first Ukrainian high jumper to win the World Indoor Championships.
The athlete’s personal best is 2.34 meters, so Tamberi’s winning height was well within the Ukrainian’s capabilities.
