Fedorov’s former adviser stated that Syrsky had been dismissed
21 July 22:21
Serhiy Sternenko, a former adviser to the defense minister, stated that Oleksandr Syrskyi allegedly no longer holds the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Sternenko reported this in a Telegram post, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
“Syrskyi is no longer Commander-in-Chief,” Sternenko wrote.
This information was also confirmed by People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko, citing sources; according to him, the decision to dismiss Syrskyi was made after the organizers of the mass protests issued an ultimatum.
Dmytro Lytvyn, the president’s communications adviser, told reporters that the president’s position would be made public shortly.
People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that, as of now, there is no confirmation of the information regarding Syrsky. According to him, Zelenskyy’s meeting with the military command lasted over two hours and has already concluded. Zheleznyak speculated that all the news could emerge as early as tomorrow.

It should be noted that there is currently no official confirmation of this information, as the decision to dismiss someone from such a position is made by the President of Ukraine.
Syrsky assumed the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2024, succeeding Valery Zaluzhny. Among some Ukrainian military personnel, he is known by the nickname “The Butcher” due to his willingness to incur heavy losses to achieve military objectives, the FT notes.

It should be noted that reports of Syrsky’s resignation emerged amid public outcry following the resignation of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. For the sixth day in a row, protests against his dismissal have been taking place in Kyiv—particularly in the square near the Ivan Franko Theater—as well as in other cities across Ukraine.
On July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held another meeting with Mykhailo Fedorov. The Office of the President confirmed that the talks took place but has not yet disclosed their content.
Zelenskyy Held Another Meeting with Fedorov
According to Dmytro Lytvyn, the head of state did indeed meet with Mykhailo Fedorov on Tuesday, July 21.
At the same time, the Office of the President did not disclose any details of the conversation or reveal what issues were discussed during the meeting.
What other meetings did Zelenskyy hold?
Earlier that day, the President of Ukraine also held a meeting with Viktor Nikoluk, commander of the “East” Operational Group of Forces.
During the meeting, the parties discussed:
- the current situation on the eastern front;
- the course of hostilities;
- further steps to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses.
