Due to the return of the Russian pavilion: grant for the Venice Biennale suspended

The European Executive Agency for Education and Culture has suspended a 2-million-euro grant to the Venice Biennale due to the return of the Russian pavilion, Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna announced on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The decision was made based on the results of a legal assessment and the recommendation of the European Commission. European funds cannot support venues that provide an aggressor state with the opportunity to normalize its presence in the international cultural sphere. Culture cannot become a tool for whitewashing aggression and legitimizing war crimes,” Berezhna wrote.
She emphasized that Russia’s participation in international cultural events is unacceptable.
“A state that kills artists, destroys museums, theaters, libraries, and places of worship, loots cultural treasures, and erases Ukrainian identity in the occupied territories cannot use culture to whitewash its own crimes,” the deputy prime minister added.
Berezhna thanked the European Commission, the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture, and the governments and representatives of more than 20 European countries who are calling for Russia to be barred from participating in the Venice Biennale.
