Who Could Lead “Naftogaz”: The Leading Candidate Has Already Been Appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors

Yuriy Tkachuk, the head of “Ukrgazvydobuvannya,” is considered the leading candidate for acting chairman of the board of “Naftogaz.” This was reported by the publication “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing its sources in the government, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Yuriy Tkachuk’s likely appointment as acting head of Naftogaz is directly linked to personnel changes in the government.
“Tkachuk may become acting chairman of Naftogaz immediately after the appointment of the current head, Serhiy Koretskyi, to the post of prime minister,” the publication writes.
Tkachuk may temporarily lead the company until an official competitive selection process is held to fill the position of permanent head. On Monday, July 13, he was officially appointed to the Naftogaz board of directors.
What is known about Yuriy Tkachuk

Yuriy Tkachuk is an experienced executive with over 25 years of professional experience in the energy and industrial sectors.
Since November 2022, Tkachuk has served as Chief Financial Officer of JSC “Ukrnafta.” In this role, he was responsible for the company’s financial strategy, risk management, and investment policy.
He also served as interim CEO of the company from May through December 2025.
Starting in May 2025, he served as acting chairman of JSC “Ukrgazvydobuvannya,” and in December 2025, he was officially appointed as the company’s CEO.

Koretsky Met with “Servant of the People”
As a reminder, Serhiy Koretskyi is the leading contender for the position of prime minister. However, his candidacy has not yet been officially announced.
It should be noted that today Serhiy Koretskyi held a meeting with members of the “Servant of the People” faction as a candidate for the position of prime minister. This was reported by the faction’s chairman, Davyd Arakhamia.
“We held a faction meeting, met with Serhiy Koretskyi, and discussed his vision for the work of the Cabinet of Ministers and the structure of the government. Serhiy Koretskyi has significant experience in the corporate and public sectors and has proven himself at Ukrnafta and Naftogaz.Serhiy Koretskyi named support for the people, preparations for the heating season, strengthening the Defense Forces, and protecting infrastructure among the government’s priorities,” Arakhamia wrote.
Currently, it is known that:
- Koretsky plans to return to the Ministry of Agriculture, which may be headed by Taras Vysotsky.
- Berezhna and Shmyhal will definitely remain in the Cabinet.
- Koretsky plans to split the Ministry of Recovery into two parts: the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Recovery, Communities, and IDPs.
The Verkhovna Rada is expected to consider the appointment of a new head of government as early as Thursday, July 16.
