Ahead of the “Servant of the People” faction meeting: inside information on the distribution of ministries and candidates for ministerial posts

15 July 14:13

Large-scale structural and personnel changes within the Cabinet of Ministers have been the subject of discussion in the country for the third day in a row. And today, a meeting of the “Servants of the People” faction is also scheduled, where they are expected to decide, among other things, on candidates for various ministerial posts. Here’s what’s being reported on the subject behind the scenes in the Verkhovna Rada and by individual politicians, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Division of Ministries

According to People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko, the “Servant of the People” faction meeting will address the division of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development (Ministry of Recovery) into two separate agencies— the Ministry of Regional Policy and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

In addition, there are discussions about splitting the current Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture into separate Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Commenting on these government plans, Goncharenko sharply criticized yet another reorganization of the government structure.

“In recent years, all the Zelenskyy administration has done is create ministries, then dismantle them, and then create them again and merge them into other agencies. It would be very funny if it weren’t so sad,” the lawmaker wrote.

According to him, each such reorganization entails a significant amount of bureaucratic work, the drafting of new government resolutions, changes to the regulatory framework, and administrative costs.

Who Might Head the New Ministries

According to the editorial staff [Komersant] the following candidates are being considered for the position of Minister of Education:

  • Deputy Minister of Education Mykola Trofimenko
  • People’s Deputy Yulia Grishina
  • Andriy Butenko, head of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance

Oleksiy Goncharenko calls the latter the “leading contender.” In addition, according to sources close to the editorial staff, Butenko has been invitedto a meeting of the SN faction today.
