A new wave of price hikes hits the fuel market: an expert predicts the price
15 July 15:11
On July 14, diesel prices on the Ukrainian wholesale fuel market rose by 5 UAH/liter and matched retail prices at 75 UAH/liter, according to Serhiy Kuyun, director of the consulting firm A-95, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Iran is on our side. In June, many people noted that the price of oil had returned to its ‘pre-war’ level of $70 per barrel. Well, yesterday it was $87. Unlike oil, global fuel prices have not reached February’s levels. At its lowest point in June, diesel cost $875 per metric ton; as of this morning, it was $1,163,” Kuyun wrote.
The expert predicts another price hike at Ukrainian gas stations. As he noted, at the government’s request, the market built up large stocks of gasoline and diesel in April, which carried over into May as prices fell. The purchased fuel was sold at maximum prices for almost the entire month of June, so July began with half the inventory compared to June.
“In this situation, we faced a new wave of price increases, and the potential to keep prices in check has now been exhausted. Yesterday, wholesale prices for diesel rose by 5 UAH/liter at once and matched retail prices (75 UAH/liter). This morning, prices were already at 76–77,” writes Kuyun.
According to Kuyun, on July 15, the cluster of gas stations with the lowest prices also began to rise—by 1–2 UAH/liter. The potential for further increases is at least 5 UAH/liter.
“As for gasoline, there are virtually no wholesale offers. Even at some chain stations, A-95 has temporarily run out. (But that can be attributed to missteps in procurement and logistics.) In short, prices will rise here as well,” the expert noted.

As the expert explains, the difference between the current situation and that in March lies in the absence of panic on the international market, where no one is cutting off supplies to Ukraine and there is sufficient supply.
“But there’s no escaping rising prices,” Kuyun concluded.
