Stefanyishyna Leaves Washington: Goncharenko Suggests Possible NABU Investigation

12 July 18:31

Olga Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States, has requested to end her diplomatic service due to personal circumstances. Interfax-Ukraine reported this, citing an informed source, according to [Komersant].

According to the agency’s source, Stefanishyna submitted the request last week. The source emphasized that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is “satisfied with Stefanishyna’s work” and that her decision is related solely to personal circumstances.

However, almost simultaneously with this report, MP Oleksiy Goncharenko suggested another possible scenario.

According to him, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine ( NABU) may announce that it has placed Olga Stefanishyna under suspicion.

“My sources report that NABU may announce charges against Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S., Stefanishyna,” the lawmaker wrote on Telegram.

Goncharenko later added that, according to his information, Stefanishyna had visited Kyiv a few days ago, where she participated in a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Michael McCaul.

There is currently no official confirmation from NABU regarding the possible charges. The bureau itself has not commented on the lawmaker’s statement.

News surrounding Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S. emerged amid a large-scale cabinet reshuffle announced by the president.

On July 12, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced upcoming changes in the government and offered Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko a different position. Svyrydenko later confirmed that she was stepping down as head of government.

Immediately afterward, several politicians reported that Svyrydenko might become Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S.
