How much is the currency worth at exchange offices

The NBU’s official exchange rate is a reference rate and does not mean that citizens can purchase dollars, euros, or zlotys at exactly that price.

Bank teller windows and currency exchange offices operate using their own buying and selling rates. These depend on the situation in the cash market, demand for a specific currency, the region, and the financial institution’s policies.

According to the “Minfin” portal, the average exchange rates at Ukrainian currency exchange offices at the time the data was compiled were as follows:

CurrencyBuySell
U.S. Dollar44.58 UAH45.07 UAH
Euro50.73 UAH51.39 UAH
Polish zloty11.50 UAH11.96 UAH

Cash exchange rates may fluctuate throughout the day, so it’s a good idea to check the current rates at a specific branch or exchange office before making a transaction.

Exchange Rates at Ukrainian Banks

At the teller windows of the largest banks, the selling rate for the dollar generally exceeds the official NBU rate. The difference between the buying and selling rates is the profit for the bank or currency exchange office and is called the currency spread.

As of the last update, rates at bank teller windows were approximately within the following ranges:

  • dollar — 44.39–44.65 UAH for buying and 44.99–45.20 UAH for selling;
  • euro — 50.50–51.00 UAH for buying and 51.30–51.70 UAH for selling;
  • Polish zloty — 11.30–11.60 UAH for buying and 11.90–12.20 UAH for selling.

Rates may vary depending on the bank, city, branch, and transaction amount.
