Kyiv Under Attack Again: Russian Drone Crashes Into 18-Story Building

On the morning of Thursday, April 16, a Russian drone struck an 18-story residential building in the Podilsky district of Kyiv. This was reported by the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to him, the enemy drone literally crashed into the high-rise building while flying at a very low altitude.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. The strike occurred amid a massive Russian attack on Kyiv with missiles and drones, which lasted through the night and into the morning of April 16.

What is known about the drone strike on an 18-story building in Kyiv

According to Vitali Klitschko, a Russian UAV struck an 18-story building in the Podil district of the capital on the morning of April 16. The mayor of Kyiv emphasized that the drone was flying very low, which made the threat to residential buildings particularly high.

After the strike was reported, rescue workers, medics, and other emergency services rushed to the scene. Details regarding the impact of the strike are still being clarified.

Massive attack on Kyiv on April 16: what is known

On the night of April 16, Russia launched a massive strike on Kyiv using ballistic missiles and drones. According to reports, four people were killed in the attack, including a 12-year-old child. Forty-five residents of the capital were injured.

It is separately noted that a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman were killed in the shelling. As of 6 a.m., 18 people were reported injured, including children, as well as four medical workers who came under fire in the Obolon district while responding to a call.

Six of the wounded were hospitalized in serious condition. Emergency services continue to work at the sites of the destruction.

Which districts of Kyiv were affected by the attack

Damage from the Russian attack was reported in several districts of the capital at once. These include the Podil, Obolon, Shevchenkivskyi, and Desnianskyi districts. Damage has also been reported in the Dniprovskyi district.

The situation in the Podilskyi district turned out to be one of the most severe. There, rocket debris struck a 16-story building and partially destroyed a mini-hotel. Rescuers were able to pull a mother and her child from under the rubble.

In the Obolonskyi district, falling debris caused a fire in an office building and nearby parked cars.

In the Desnianskyi district, a two-story residential building caught fire.

In the Shevchenkivskyi and Dniprovskyi districts, falling debris was reported in open areas, including a playground, and windows were damaged.

Following the nighttime and morning attacks, rescue workers, medical personnel, police, and utility services are working at the sites of strikes and destruction in Kyiv. They are clearing up the aftermath of the shelling, providing assistance to the injured, and inspecting damaged structures.

Particular attention is being paid to residential buildings damaged by missile and drone strikes, particularly in the Podilskyi district, where a new drone strike on an 18-story building was recorded this morning.
