Former MP Maksym Mykytas, who is involved in the high-profile case of unbuilt warehouses for the Defense Ministry, has had his electronic bracelet removed. The information was reported by journalist Oleh Novikov, and confirmed by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Despite this, the rest of the duties assigned to Mykytas have been extended until August 6. He is obliged to surrender his passports, appear at the request of investigators and the court, and comply with other conditions.
Similar obligations have been extended for the same period for Mykytas’ former assistant, Serhiy Yakusevych.
In addition, the lawyers of both suspects filed a motion for a collegial review of the case by three judges. Based on the results of the automated distribution, the panel of judges was formed by Natalia Movchan (chairperson), Timur Khamzin and Olga Salandyak.
The case in brief
According to the investigation, in 2018, the Ministry of Defense signed a contract for the construction of secure ammunition storage facilities. The cost of the project was estimated at more than UAH 3 billion, and the construction was to be completed by 2021.
The contractor was a company controlled by MP Mykytas. However, in order to seize more budget funds, he and his assistant, according to law enforcement, obtained changes to government regulations that allowed them to increase the advance payment from 30% to 80% of the total contract amount.
As a result, at the end of 2018, the Ministry of Defense transferred more than UAH 307 million to the accounts of the controlled company, but construction did not begin. The funds were withdrawn to other accounts related to the suspects.
